The Friday 56

Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Frieda's Voice.  You pick a book and turn to page 56 or 56% (e-reader) and choose a few sentences without spoiling the book.  It's my first time doing this!

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

PUBLISHER:  Riverhead Books
PUBLICATION DATE:  January 13, 2015
PAGES:  336
MY RATING: 4.5/5

From Goodreads

This book was so good.  I had it on my shelf for quite a while and finally read it!  I know it's been compared to Gone Girl and I can see why.  Though that book was good, I enjoyed this more.  This was a much faster-paced read, more suspenseful and had a creepy-feel to it which I loved!

This book alternates between three women's point-of-views; all who each have their own individual problems and issues.  It took quite awhile for me to like the main character, Rachel.  She is an alcoholic with stalker-ish behavior and I just felt bad for her.  I disliked Anna from the beginning and still do.  Megan, I just plain felt sorry for.

Rachel travels on the train everyday, admiring the couple she see's from the train that she has "affectionately" named "Jason" and Jess," but things are not always what they seem.  This book is full of secrets, lies and suspense!  It kept me guessing; I highly recommend it.

I'll be seeing the movie soon and can't wait to see how it compares!

Top Ten Tuesday

This is my first Top Ten Tuesday!  It's a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.  This weeks theme is: "Ten Characters I'd name a child/dog/cat/car/etc. after."

10 Characters I'd name a child/pet after:

1.  Feyre - This is literally probably the only name that I've come across in a book that I would actually name a child.  It is so pretty.

This reminded me of another favorite of mine, Freya.

2.  Liv - This name makes me think of Liv Tyler, but I've always liked it because it's unique and simple.  Though, it could be a nickname, I like just like it is.

3.  Kestrel - At first, this one of those names that I wasn't sure if I liked or not.  Not even sure if it's a "real" name or something that was made up for the book.  The more I read The Winner's Curse, the more I grew to like it.

4.  Winter - I've definitely heard of this name before, but I've always found it pretty.  I think I've only come across one in my life.  I knew of three sisters once when I was younger, that were named Winter, Autumn and Summer.  I used to think that was really cool.

5.  Nora - I remember reading A Doll's House in high school and then again recently to help catch up with my goodreads goal last year.  I still like this name.

6.  Scarlet - I've liked this name since watching Gone with the Wind, but since I've never actually read the book, I'm using Scarlet from the Lunar Chronicles as my example.

7.  Clary - I know this is a nickname and her real name is Clarissa (which was a name I used to like), but I just like the nickname better.

8.  Lissa - It was really hard for me to come up with any more names, but I thought this was a decent one.

9.  Hermione - Definitely starting to reach on this one.  I picked it because it's unique and it's kind of nice.

10.  Tris - I can't stand the name Beatrice, but I do like the nickname 'Tris.'

This was pretty difficult for me to come up with 10.  I'm rather picky when it comes to naming a child; I like uncommon, real, non-trendy, not-in-the-top-100-list kind of person.  For pets, doesn't matter.   You're probably wondering why no boy name? LOL, well there hasn't been a boy name that I've come across yet that I've liked.

Fall Tag - 2016

"Don’t be morbid. Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."

-F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

I love tags so I decided to do one!  Found here!

1) The smell of pumpkin guts or rotting leaves?  Rotting leaves, makes me think of fall for sure.

2) Sweet or salty pumpkin seeds?  Salty pumpkin seeds.  I have never had sweet pumpkin seeds nor even heard of them.

3) Store bought or pumpkin patch pumpkins?  Either.  I rarely buy pumpkins and I can't remember if I've ever even been to a pumpkin patch! LOL

4) Wool or knit sweaters?  Definitely knit.  Wool is way too itchy.

5) Halloween party or exploring haunted places?  Halloween party.

6) Candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?  I had to look up mellowcreme pumpkins, but when I saw the picture I knew what they were! I'd have to choose mellowcreme pumpkins then; they were always my favorite between that and candy corn.

7) Apple cider donuts or pumpkin donuts?  Apple cider donuts for sure!

8) Apple pie or pumpkin pie?  Apple pie.  Not a fan of pumpkin-tasting anything.

9) Scary costume or something silly?  If I had to choose between these two, scary, but if I was dressing up, I wouldn't be doing either of these.

10) Still, silent sights or rainy, windblown ones?  Rainy, windblown ones.  I find them relaxing.

11) Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown?  Hocus Pocus.  I was a bit too old for Halloweentown when it came out.

12) Witches of ghosts?  Witches.

13) Raking leaves or climbing trees?  Neither.  Raking leaves is a chore and climbing trees is something kids do.

14) Ouija boards or ghost stories around the campfire?  Ghost stories around campfire.  I love campfires.

15) Frankenweenie or The Corpse Bride?  Neither.  I've never seen The Corpse Bride.  I saw an older version of Frankenweenie when I was little and always thought it was weird.

16) October or November?  I like October, but I would choose November because of Thanksgiving.  Especially this year because I will be in New York!  Also, November is closer to Christmas and that is my absolute favorite holiday!

17) Black cats or owls?  I like both.

18) Fireplace or candlelight?  Fireplace.  It's so cozy and comforting.

19) Monster movies or the classic novels?  I don't watch monster movies, so I think I'd rather read the classic novels.

20) Carve or paint pumpkins?  I can't remember the last time I carved a pumpkin.  I think painting them would be fun!

21) Worst thing you've ever gotten trick-or-treating?  I had to look up the name.  They're called Peanut Butter Kisses.  Cheap, nasty candy.

22) What did you dress up as a kid?  The usual: bunny, cat, witch, princess, angel, cheerleader, devil etc...

23) What are you dressing up this year if you're dressing up?  Not dressing up this year.

That's it for the tag!  If anyone would like to do it, I would love to know your answers!

Fortune Cookie Soap 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar - Still available!

The Fortune Cookie Soap Magical Suitcase 12 Days of Christmas Box is still available for Pre-order! It hasn't sold out yet; I just ordered mine!  Though the prices are steeper than last years ($75 US, $85 Canada and $90 International), I had to have it because it will feature several of their best-selling Harry Potter scents!  Products come in a suitcase box with advent-like cutouts!  I had so much fun with last years Nightmare Before Christmas-themed 12 Days of Christmas Box (yeah I know I never finished that post =/) and I'm not even a fan.  So, I'll know I love this one!  I highly suggest this to fans of Harry Potter, Fortune Cookie Soap, and bath products!!  Also, if you're not subscribed to their quarterly subscription box, I highly recommend that as well...
